The stage is where you’re likely to find Makena Hook. Whether performing as an All-Star Cheerleader, competitive dancer or in a musical, Makena loves to entertain.
An active member of the Sonoran Centennial National Charity League, Makena often volunteers with St. Vincent de Paul and Help in Healing Home. Her favorite activities are serving dinner to cancer patients and the Holiday Adopt a Child.
This high school student from Scottsdale has older twin brothers and is the youngest of three. Makena and her brothers suffer from genetic chest wall defects and started an organization, Pectus Teens, to help other young people dealing with the same conditions. Makena underwent Nuss Bar Surgery for Pectus Excavatum in June of 2020 to have two titanium bars inserted to lift her rib cage off of her heart and lungs.
Makena volunteers with Phoenix Children’s Hospital and Mayo Clinic talking to others who are facing the same intensive surgery. Makena and her brothers raise funds to provide heart shaped pillows for pectus patients and to help those who can’t afford this life changing care. Pectus Teens has an active Facebook Group with members from all over the world.
Makena dreams of becoming an entrepreneur and running her own business one day. Makena loves to travel and vlog her adventures. She hopes to live in several different cities like New York and Honolulu to get a taste of the US. Makena plans to attend the University of Arizona and major in Business.
